In which Sage gets revenge for chapter three of Demons in the Doorway, Monster down the Hall, Robyn says thank you, and a chair breaks.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I never did thank you, you know." Sage looked up from the book he was reading, and raised an eyebrow from behind his glasses.
"Thank me for what?" Robyn, who was sitting backwards on a chair, tilted said chair diagonally so she could get a little closer to the glasses wearing bishounen.
"For the dance. Heck, I don't even think I could ever have planned a better revenge against Minako if I tried." Sage smiled slightly, causing Robyn to blink. They sat there staring each other before Sage shook his head slightly then looked back down at the book he was reading. It was 'The Complete Works of Robert Frost,' or something like that. Basically, it was a big book.
"No thanks are necessary. And you shouldn’t tilt the chair like that, you might fall over." Robyn rolled her eyes as she rocked the chair forward even more, giving him a defiant look.
"Yes, thanks are needed mister high-and-mighty. I have done a lot of thinking about this" -at this Sage gave a small snort- "and I believe that since you did know that Hiroshi was gonna be an a$$, and because of the indisputable fact you hate dances, you must have gone to the prom because you were worried about me." Sage casually turned the page before replying.
"Indisputable, huh? I am surprised that you vocabulary reaches that far." Robyn stuck her tongue out at Sage as she glared before leaning forward even more.
"Look you, I was trying to be nice! I was saying thank you! People do not go around making fun of other people’s language when they are trying to do that."
"Stop leaning on the chair, you are going to break it." Robyn narrowed he eyes at him as silence reigned once again. For a while they remained like that, the only thing moving were Sage's eyes, they were still diligently following the poem's lines. Slowly, a cat like grin stretched across Robyn's face.
"Oh, now I get it." Sage looked at her suspiciously, momentarily pausing his reading, before once again continuing. Robyn’s face dropped a bit but she quickly put it back in place.
"I mean, how obvious can you get? I should have guessed it a looooong time ago."
"If you think that such an apparent baiting is going to get me to ask 'what is it,' then you are going to be disappointed."
"Of coarse I'll tell you! All you had to do was ask!" The smile turned cheerleader cheerful as she leaned even farther in the chair. Sage blinked before realizing that even using the question she wanted him to ask in the sentence was enough invitation for her. With a sigh, he prepared himself for whatever she was going to say.
"Your madly, head-over heals, 100% in love with me!" Sage's eyes widened to the size of dinner plates as his now nerveless fingers dropped the book with a thud. A blush brighter than a tomato spread across his face as he stared at the girl before him. The smile had turned triumphant. With a sputter, he finally found his voice.
"WHAT?" And he found it loudly.
"Well, counting your reaction now, and the dance at the prom, and all the other subtle hints, it's very obvious. I mean, who can't resist these charms? I must admit, you put up a fair fight against them, but you never had a chance." Sage picked up the book, the blush still showing across the bridge of his nose, as he futilely tried to regain his composure.
"You are an Idiot."
"C'mon, there is no way you can deny it." Before Sage could reply, something interrupted. Or should I say, someone.
"Deny what?" Both of them turned to look at he doorway, where Kento stood with his arms full of different kinds of snacks, obviously about to go outside to deliver it to the others who were outside enjoying the day. The smile on Robyn’s face became downright scary, to Sage at least.
"Oh! We were just talking about how Sage was madly in love with m-" At this Sage lunged at Robyn and clamped his hand over her mouth as he smoothly interjected. "-Robert Frosts work. His description of nature is very in-depth." Kento just shrugged as he continued out the door.
"Whatever. I still don't understand why you guys would want to stay in here when it's so great outside." Robyn, who was wide eyed and was looking at Sage as if he had grown bunny-ears and was posing for playboy, made no reply. Sage simply glared, with his blush still intact from before, before speaking up before Robyn could make a comment.
"I already told you, I do not want to get sun-burn since you and Ryo thought it would be funny to use my sunscreen to paint a giant smiley-face in the front yard." Kento just laughed as he walked out.
"Yeah, that was great wasn't it!" Sage simply glared at Kento's back till he was sure he had disappeared. After Kento was out of earshot, Sage slowly moved his hand off Robyn’s mouth, his blush slowly fading. Robyn was still staring at Sage, after a couple of minutes he finally snapped.
"What is it?" Robin blinked, as if coming out of a daze before she said.
"You really do like me." Sage turned his face away, his face setting into stone.
"What are you talking about?" Robyn narrowed her eyes a she pointed straight at him, poking him in the arm. Neither one noticed the chair creaking from the strain.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about you-" At this, a loud snap was heard as the chair broke and Robyn was pitched forward into the arms of Sage, his eyes widening in surprise. They stood there for a while, in slight shock as they stared at each other. Robyn was straddling Sages knees and her chin was resting on his chest she looked into his lavender-steel eyes. Sage's arms were loosely wrapped around her waist, since he had tried to steady her while she fell. It was a very uncomfortable position, both physically, and in every other way imaginable. After a few seconds, Robyn jumped up and laughed nervously.
"Hey! Why don't we head out to the store to get you some sunscreen? Since you hate sharing it and all." Sage nodded as he stood up, a thoughtful look on his face.
"Great! Lets go!" A she walked towards the door, she suddenly froze as she felt a sharp smack against her rear. Spinning around, she stared with wide eyes as Sage walked past her with a smirk. After reaching
the car door, he turned around and smiled at her.
"Well? Are you just going to stand there or are you coming." Robyn blinked she smiled back. Letting out a small whoop, she ran towards him and the car.
